Every time I launch Pro Tools, I get "This version of (plug-in name) requires authorization for you to use it. Please press the Authorize button to begin the authorization process." The only options are to Authorize/Buy or Quit. How do I remove expired (trial) plug-ins?

Pop-up Authorization Messages

All Digidesign plug-ins and software that require an additional purchase (and many from third-party developers) require an iLok license for authorization.*

When the Pro Tools application is launched, a message will appear for each plug-in or software option that requires iLok authorization if the license for that sofware is not found on an iLok connected to your computer.

Pro Tools installers and installation disks include various installers for optional plug-ins and software in order to allow existing owners of these options to install or update software for which they have licenses.

If you have installed optional plug-ins or software that you did not purchase, and you do not have an iLok license to use these items, you can remove the software using the instructions below. Once you do, the pop-up authorization message will no longer appear during Pro Tools startup. The procedure for removing the expired (demo) software is different depending on the software type and platform. Information on trial licenses is at the bottom of this page.

What Plug-Ins Are Included With My System?
  • To find out what plug-ins are included with your Pro Tools system purchase*, see the Products Section of the website.
  • Choose your Pro Tools system, then click on the "Bundled Plug-Ins" tab.

*While the DigiRack plug-ins are included with all Pro Tools software upgrades, promotional bundles such as the Ignition Pack software are included with the purchase of new Pro Tools HD and LE hardware systems only. The Ignition Pack bundle is not included with Pro Tools software upgrades. DigiRack Plug-ins, original Ignition Pack, and Ignition Pack 2 software do not use iLok authorization (only the Ignition Pack 2 Pro includes extra softare that is iLok-authorized). DigiRack plug-ins require no authorization for use in Pro Tools, while the Ignition Pack software includes instructions for authorization on the printed cards for each Ignition Pack 3rd party product.

What Is An iLok & Why Would I Need One?

Digidesign has transitioned all of our plug-in software copy protection from floppy drive based key disks to copy protection authorizations that reside on the iLok technology provide by PACE. The following is some information about iLok technology.

The iLok USB Hardware Key (pictured here) is a device that holds authorization keys and connects via the USB port to your computer.

The iLok USB Hardware Key enables you to carry all of your authorizations with you wherever you go using a single key:
  • It's Portable: iLok enables you to easily move authorizations from one computer to another. Use your software at home, at the office, at a studio, or at a friend's house. iLok makes it portable.
  • It's Safe: Authorizations are stored in the secure iLok USB Hardware Key — not on the computer or hard drive. iLok is immune to problems caused by machine upgrades, disk maintenance, hardware failures, and software updates.
  • It's Convenient: Store all of your iLok-enabled software authorizations on a single iLok USB Hardware Key, regardless of developer

Using iLok.com & Electronic iLok License Transfers

Many products that are sold online can be purchased as web-only electronic licenses to activate optional plug-ins and software installed from web downloads or your Pro Tools CD. These include many plug-ins and optional software products sold as "Full License" or time-limited "Rental" licenses available on the DigiStore. For these electronic licenses, no iLok License Card is included or required. Licenses are purchased online, deposited to your iLok.com account, and then transferred to your iLok. This is a quick and easy process that allows you to purchase products online and use them immediately.

Many new boxed versions of iLok-enabled software products from Digidesign include an activation card with instructions on how to authorize your iLok using the Digidesign website. With these products, an Activation Code is used to deposit the licenses to your account on iLok.com.

What is my iLok User ID?
If you have not already done so, you would create a free iLok.com account yourself at iLok.com. Once you create an account there, your iLok User ID is what you use to login to your account on iLok.com (not your login password, which you also choose). Your iLok.com User ID is sometimes referred to as your "iLok ID", "iLok User ID", or "iLok Account". All of these are the same thing, your login name [More]

TL Space IR libraries cannot be installed with TL Space 7.4 (Native Edition & TDM) on Windows XP.
Installing IR libraries that have been downloaded from the TL Space Impulse Response Library Product Page, fail to load properly.

This problem seems to be corrected by using the TL Space 7.4cs1 installer located in the download section of the TL SPace Product Page. You may uninstall your current version of TL Space before running the TL Space 7.4cs1 installer.

The steps to load an IR library are as follows:

1) Download a .tls IR library file from the TL Space IR Library Product page here.

2) Insert TL Space on an a track in Pro Tools.

3) Within the TL Space plug-in window navigate to the Edit menu and select "Install TL Space IR package" and browse to the IR Library (.tls file) that you have downloaded.

4) Click the Install Button.

5) Notice that nothing happens. The IR does not install. You will see no message or picture for the IR.

Note: This is seen on XP only with both TDM and Native versions of TL Space.

What Fixes are Included in Pro Tools LE 7.1cs9 for Mac OS X?

The following warning is not included in the 7.1cs9 Read Me document. This issue was discovered after the release of Pro Tools 7.1cs9:
WARNING
In Pro Tools 7.1cs9, the session can not be saved after importing any MP3/MP4 files by dragging from the Workspace browser, desktop, or finder. Until we provide the fix in an upcoming CS release, the workaround is to avoid using drag and drop importing of MP3/MP4 files, and instead use "Import Audio to Track" or "Import Audio to Regions List".

About Pro Tools 7.1cs9

From the Pro Tools LE 7.1cs9 Read Me for Mac OS X:

For Digi 002, Digi 002 Rack, Mbox or Mbox 2 Systems with Pro Tools LE 7.1 for Mac OS X 10.4 ("Tiger") for PowerPC-Based Macs Only

This update will not work without Pro Tools LE 7.1 for Digi 002, Digi 002 Rack, Mbox, or Mbox 2 systems on Mac OS X 10.4 already installed.

What's Fixed in Pro Tools LE 7.1cs9?

Pro Tools LE 7.1cs9 for Mac OS X contains the following:

Fixed: Pro Tools Always Overwrites Automation in Existing Playlists When Using "Import (Session Data): Overlay New on Existing Playlists" (Item # 63172)

Pro Tools would not allow a session with a 2-hour start time to overlay automation data on a session with a 1 hour start time without clearing all automation before 2 hours on the destination session.

Automation cannot be "combined" with an overlay—the destination session’s automation will be replaced from the Session Start time of the source session.

Inserts and sends must be consistent between sessions or they may be overwritten.

Fixed: Volumes With Japanese Naming Will Not Mount In DigiBase (Item #73463)

DVD, CD, and hard drive volumes with Japanese naming will not mount in DigiBase.

It was also not possible to create a Pro Tools session on a Japanese-named volume without getting an error.

Fixed: Some Automation Moves Could Be Written Incorrectly When Writing Immediately After A "Play" Command (Item#78032)

This could occur when touching a control immediately after a "play" command, but before the transport started moving.

Fixed: Potential Problems When Relinking Audio Files (Item #77061, #79230)

If DigiTranslator was not installed, Pro Tools would assign a new unique ID to a copy of an Avid audio file when using "Save A Copy." This was because Pro Tools required DigiTranslator to read Avid unique IDs.

Files without unique IDs imported into Pro Tools could not be later relinked if the file name had later been changed by the user from the Finder level.

Pro Tools will now function in the following way:
  • Automatically add a unique ID (as needed) to audio files when opening a session or importing audio.
  • Recognize Avid unique IDs, even when DigiTranslator is not installed.
Fixed: When Using Network Home Directories, Pro Tools Would Not Launch if the Library/Preferences Directories Were Not On A Local File System (Item #78524)

Network Home Directories are sometimes used to provide the same settings and files to users on multiple machines on a network. This fix allows the Library/Preferences Directories to be on a Network Home Directory instead of being required to be on the individual local system.

Fixes Included from Pro Tools LE 7.1cs8:
