MP3 Option Authorization & Purchase Information
|
| MP3 Option Authorization & Purchase Information |
Where can I find my authorization code from my MP3 Option purchase on the DigiStore?
If you did not print your order confirmation page, or receive your email order confirmation from the DigiStore at the time of purchase with your authorization, most recent purchasers can retrieve it by logging into your account on the DigiStore:
1. Go to the DigiStore
2. Click on "your account" in the menu at the top.
2. Enter your email address and password and click on "Login" if you see that option there.
3. Not all orders will show up there, but recent ones should. If you see one for MP3 Export or MP3 Option, click on "View Order Details"
4. You'll see a copy of your receipt. Look for "Authorization code, serial number or upgrade key (depending on product purchased):" with your authorization code next.
Your MP3 Option authorization code will begin with the letters "CUBS".
About MP3 Option
The MP3 Option software is a paid option purchased separately, and is available online at the DigiStore:
The software costs $19.95 (USD) to cover the codec licensing fee that Digidesign pays to the Fraunhofer Institute for each MP3 Option sold. It is not included with every copy of Pro Tools, because that would raise the cost of every new system and upgrade by @ $20 per person, and not everyone needs this option. So it is a paid option for those that want and need it.
To purchase, please select your country/region from the Region link at the top right of the DigiStore.
Note: If your country/region is not available on the DigiStore, you will need to arrange to purchase the MP3 Option license and authorization from your Local Digidesign Office.
MP3 Option is included with the purchase of the following toolkits:
- Complete Production Toolkit
- DV Toolkit 2
- Music Production Toolkit 2
- Music Production Toolkit (discontinued original version)
For more information on all current toolkits, see the following:
MP3 Option is not included with other software bundles or Pro Tools software.
If you have previously purchased a license for either MP3 Export or MP3 Option for either Mac or Windows, you do not need to repurchase a new license for MP3 Option. Your authorization for any one of these will work with all of the following:
- MP3 Export for Mac (Pro Tools 5.0.1 TDM, LE, or Pro Tools FREE)
- MP3 Export for Windows (Pro Tools 5.0.1 TDM, LE, or Pro Tools FREE)
- MP3 Option for Mac (all Pro Tools 5.1 and higher systems)
- MP3 Option for Windows (all Pro Tools 5.1 and higher systems)
MP3 Option — Authorization Code or iLok Authorization?
Please Note: in the "Authorizing the MP3 Export Option" section of the MP3 Option Guide available below, it says the following: "The MP3 Export Option can be authorized using an Authorization Code or iLok License."
iLok authorization of MP3 Option is only available with MP3 Option installation with Pro Tools 7.3 and higher. All earlier versions of MP3 Option require an MP3 Option authorization code.
If you own an iLok USB hardware key (purchased separately) and are using Pro Tools 7.3 or higher, you can purchase the following from

Authorizing MP3 Option for Pro Tools Windows XP
- Wait until the trial period has expired and you should be prompted to choose 'Authorize' anytime you import or bounce an MP3. If this does not happen correctly follow these additional steps:
- Quit Pro Tools
- Download this script and unzip it
- Double click on the "Install MP3 Option.exe" file - it will take a few seconds, then give you a message that is has completed.
- Make sure you have the latest PACE drivers
- Launch Pro Tools and when you access the MP3 option you should get the proper "Authorize" button and not the "challenge-response" dialog or "Try" option.
Authorizing MP3 Option for Pro Tools Mac OS X
- Remove the MP3 folder from the Mac HD\Applications\Digidesign\Pro Tools\Codecs folder
- Trash all databases and preferences (move the Digidesign Databases folder located on the root level of all drives mounted on the computer to the trash; also, in the Mac HD\Users\(Your User - House Icon)\Library\Preferences folder, delete the com.digidesign.ProTools(LE).plist, DAE prefs folder, DigiSetup.OSX, and Pro Tools V.x(LE) Preferences files).
- Empty the trash from the Finder menu.
- Run the Pro Tools installer from your current Pro Tools version's installation file or CD and choose ONLY the MP3 Update (not the Demo). This should place the MP3.bundle back into the MP3 folder in your Codecs folder. If it does not, restart and run the installer again.
- Update your PACE files and launch Pro Tools.
- Once you choose to bounce as an MP3, you should see the correct Authorize window (make sure you have your code ready - if you choose to cancel, you'll have to restart and relaunch Pro Tools to authorize again).

48 kHz Bounce to MP3 in Pro Tools 7.x Results in a 44.1 kHz MP3 File.
|
| 48 kHz Bounce to MP3 in Pro Tools 7.x Results in a 44.1 kHz MP3 File. |
This is a known issue in Pro Tools HD, LE & M-Powered 7.1 - 7.4.2.
Bouncing to MP3 while using the "Highest Quality Encoding, Slower Encoding Time" setting with any bit rate other than 320kbps will result in a 44.1kHz file.
If you need to create a 'high quality' MP3 at 48k:
1) Bounce to 48k Wave.
2) Open iTunes preferences and set Import "Using MP3 Encoder" and select "Custom" for settings.
3) Within Custom set the Stereo Bit Rate to 320 (max) and set the Sample Rate to 48k.
4) Import the Wave file into iTunes and get info on the file. It will be 48k. The CBR will be greater than 320kbps, resulting in a much larger file size.
Taken from the "Read Me" for Pro Tools HD, LE & M-Powered 7.4.2 (Mac OS X 10.5.3).
Bouncing to MP3 while using the “Highest Quality Encoding, Slower Encoding Time” setting with any bit rate other than 20kbps will result in a 44.1kHz file. This is a known limitation of the encoder.
