Digidesign announces new products at AES 2008
Live from the Moscone Center in San Francisco, Digidesign today announced several exciting new products and upgrades — including the sleek and sophisticated new Pro Tools 8 — at this year’s 125th AES Convention. Digidesign is excited to showcase a preview of Pro Tools 8 — the most advanced audio creation and production software — featuring a gorgeous new interface, dozens of new plug-ins and virtual instruments, exciting new scoring and MIDI features, expanded editing and mixing capabilities, enhanced performance, and more. Expanded Hardware Control
Pro Tools 8 deepens its ICON console, Digidesign control surface, and M-Audio® controller integration, enabling you to map plug-in parameter controls to almost any encoder on your controller, and access each track’s 10 inserts. With ICON, Pro Tools 8 brings new and improved functionality to the Soft Keys; adds a local assign mode for assigning Inserts, Sends, Inputs, and Outputs; introduces I/O view; and lets you expand a D-Command® or D-Command® ES console to 40 faders with an additional Fader Module.
Pro Tools 8 is coming soon for Pro Tools|HD®, Pro Tools LE®, and Pro Tools M-Powered™ systems, so get ready — you’ll never work with audio the same way again.

Video Satellite
Bring high-definition Avid® video into the Pro Tools|HD audio production workflow. Video Satellite is a software option that enables Pro Tools|HD editors to quickly and easily open and play Avid HD or SD sequences (or QuickTime HD), housed on a separate Windows-based computer running Avid Media Composer®, in sync with their Pro Tools session without having to render effects, transcode video, or copy files. It also allows you to tap into Avid shared media environments to stream video, and integrate with the Avid Interplay® asset management system. And because all video playback is offloaded onto a separate but synced system, you maintain the full track count and processing power of Pro Tools|HD. Video Satellite is coming soon — stay tuned.
Video Satellite LE
Add high-definition video playback to your audio production workflow. Similar to Video Satellite, Video Satellite LE is a software option that enables Pro Tools|HD editors to quickly and easily open and play QuickTime or Avid video, housed on a separate Pro Tools LE Mbox® 2 Micro-based computer, in sync with their Pro Tools session. Play back QuickTime HD or SD video, or connect a supported Avid video peripheral to work with Avid SD video. Satellite Link
Control multiple Pro Tools|HD systems from one. Satellite Link is a powerful software option that allows you to synchronize and control up to five Pro Tools|HD systems as one, with near sample-accurate lock, from a single transport. With multi-master transport and solo-link capabilities, and support for the new Video Satellite and Video Satellite LE options, Satellite Link is the perfect solution for post-production and music environments with multiple operators and multiple Pro Tools|HD systems. For D-Command® users, the D-Command Producer’s Desk provides an ergonomic worksurface that incorporates a built-in Pro Tools Custom Keyboard, your mouse, and your computer monitor onto the same level as your console, providing a more comfortable and efficient workflow. Available in a dark color scheme for the D-Command ES console or the original blue for D-Command, the D-Command Producer’s Desk attaches to your ICON console, giving you Pro Tools editing control on the same surface level as your encoders and faders.
