Quantizing Audio Using Elastic Time
DigiNews Tips & Tricks: June 2008
Elastic Time in Pro Tools 7.4 software gives you the ability to quantize audio just like you would do with MIDI notes. First, make sure the Elastic Time plug-in is active on the audio track containing your loop. Then choose the Quantize function from the Event drop-down menu under Event Operations.
The Quantize window will open, and you will be able to apply whatever groove you choose to the selected audio region. Maybe you want a drum loop to swing more, or maybe you want a swung guitar loop to feel straighter. All these things are now easier to do than ever with the power of Elastic Time.
By the way, you might wonder if Elastic Time has made Beat Detective obsolete. Actually, Beat Detective is still a great tool for many things like extracting grooves and slicing up loops to further tweak them.
