When I name my tracks with a dash ("-") or an underscore ("_"), the file names on the hard disk do not match the file names in Pro Tools.

This is a known issue in Pro Tools HD, LE, and M-Powered version 7.x (Mac OS X & Windows XP/Vista)

Loss of characters in the file name of an audio file on the hard disk will occur if the name of the track in Pro Tools contains either a dash ("-") or an underscore ("_").

Whole file names and region names on the hard disk will have a name that is shorter than what Pro Tools shows for the file name. When using "import session data" on tracks that have a dash or underscore in the name, the UID and Creation Date of the original audio file will be changed, when it should remain the same.

The workaround for this issue is to double-click on the region, and then hit enter. This will update the file on the hard disk with the correct file name.

Example:

A region in Pro Tools with the name "Vox_101_01" that is on the track "Vox_101" will have a filename such as "Vox_01" on the hard disk.
