Can I use my Digi 001, Mbox, Digi 002 or Digi 002 Rack in DAE mode in Digital Performer?
No. DAE mode is not necessary, since 3rd party applications must use the CoreAudio driver to play through the Digidesign hardware. Thus, you don't have access to DAE with an Digi 001, Mbox or 002.

Note: the Digi 001 is ONLY supported with the CoreAudio driver v6.1.2 for Mac OS 10.2x (Jaguar). [Page View]

What is the new EQ III Plug-In compatible with? Can I use my MIX or Digi 001 hardware?
Digidesign's new EQ III plug-in is introduced with Pro Tools HD and LE version 6.7. EQ III supports all Avid Xpress, Avid Xpress DV, and Avid DNA systems.

MIX and Digi 001 users will not be able to officially use EQ III, as the last version of Pro Tools for MIX and Digi 001 systems is Pro Tools version 6.4.1 and 6.4 respectively.

While unsupported, EQ III does work with Digi 001 and MIX systems, but only in RTAS mode. [Page View]

How do I sync an Akai MPC 2000 (drum machine sequencer) with Pro Tools in OS 9?
1) As of this writing, MIDI Beat Clock, although not providing positional information is the fastest for lock up. The following setup is for both MTC and Midi Beat Clock. (when using MTC provide a bar or two or pre-roll)
2) With Pro Tools LE version 5.0, you'll need a standalone MIDI interface as the 001's MIDI OUT does not pass MIDI Time Code or MIDI Beat Clock. This was fixed in Pro Tools LE 5.0.1 and later.
3) Verify the MPC 2000 device in OMS ; receive/send MTC and MIDI Beat Clock are checked;" is controller" and "is multitimbral" are checked
4) Pro Tools > Peripherals > Sync > Generic MTC > port= MTP AV (or, other MIDI Interface of choice)
5) Session setup> FR=30 and MTC to port = MPC 2000
6) MPC2000>MIDI Sync>Frame Rate=30, MIDI Clock (stands for MIDI Beat Clock; Choose either MTC or MIDI Beat clock here), receive MMC=off, Port 1 (There are 2 MIDI INS and 2 MIDI outs on the MPC 2000; VERIFY the MIDI cable going from the MIDI interface into either MIDI IN Port 1 or MIDI IN Port 2 corresponds to the Port selected on the MPC 2000's Midi sync menu)
7) press PLAY on the MPC 2000 (it will wait for sync from Pro Tools)
8) press PLAY on Pro Tools; it will trigger the MPC 2000.

I cannot select the MIDI ports on my Digi 001 in my third party application ...

I cannot select the MIDI ports on my Digi 001 in my third party application using the ASIO driver v6.1.1
The ASIO driver is an audio only protocol and has no MIDI functionality. You cannot use the ASIO driver to stream MIDI data via the Digi 001.

The description on the website for the ASIO driver v6.1.1 may be a little misleading. Previous versions of the ASIO driver would disable the MIDI ports while using the ASIO driver. The latest version, v6.1.1, fixes this problem so that the MIDI ports can be used independently while using the ASIO application, however, you can't use the ASIO driver itself for use with the MIDI ports.

How do I sync my Roland VS-880 and record into Pro Tools LE using a Digi ...

How do I sync my Roland VS-880 and record into Pro Tools LE using a Digi 001 or Digi 002 for Mac in OS X?
This setup will work for any of the Roland hard disk recorders (ie. VS-880, VS-840, VS-1680, VS-2480). In theory this setup could work for other brands of Hard Disk recorders as well.

Recording from a ROLAND VS-880 Digital recorder to Pro Tools

VS-880 (master)
Pro T ools (slave)

CONNECTIONS
- MIDI OUT of Roland VS-880 > MIDI IN of Digi 001 or Digi 002.
- The VS-880 supports Optical S/PDIF. (Two channels)
Optical OUT of VS-880 > Optical IN (no Red light) of Digi 001 PCI card or on the Digi 002 itself.
- Or use the S/PDIF output of the Roland VS-880 > S/PDIF inputs on the Digi 001 or Digi 002.
Both setups are listed below.

PRO TOOLS CONFIGURATION
1) Launch a Pro Tools session. Make sure that bit depth and sample rate match between Pro Tools and the VS-880.
2) For Digi 001 & Digi 002: Setup Menu > Hardware Setup. Set the Clock to S/PDIF if using the S/PDIF RCA input on the Digi 001. If using the Optical connection on the Digi 001 PCI card or the Optical connection on the Digi 002, set the Clock to ADAT.
3) Windows Menu > Show Session Setup. Make sure that the Start Time and Incoming Time Code are the same, or that Start Time is a little ahead of Incoming Time. This time code is provided to Pro Tools by sending MIDI Time Code from out of the Roland VS-880. (information below)

If using the S/PDIF Connections of the VS-880
- For Digi 001: Setups Menu > Hardware Setup > Set Optical Format to ADAT > OK.
- For Digi 002: Setups Menu > Hardware Setup > Set Digital Input to RCA = S/PDIF, Optical = ADAT. OK.
- Setups Menu > I/O Setups > Click on Input Tab > Click on Default button to Reset I/O's > OK.
- Set Inputs for the record tracks (S/PDIF connection): S/PDIF L and/or S/PDIF R.

If using the Optical connection from the VS-880
- For Digi 001: Setups Menu > Hardware Setup > Set Optical Format to S/PDIF> OK.
- For Digi 002: Setups Menu > Hardware Setup > Set Digital Input to Optical = S/PDIF, RCA = OFF. OK.
- Setups Menu > I/O Setups > Click on Input Tab > Click on Default button to Reset I/O's > OK.
5) Inputs for the record tracks (S/PDIF - Optical connection): S/PDIF L (Opt) and/or S/PDIF R (Opt).

AMS Setup
6) Setups > Edit MIDI Studio Setup: create VS-880 device (send/receive MTC) branching off the Digi 001 or Digi 002 MIDI Interface. For help on AMS setup consult Getting Started With Digi 001 or Digi 002 Guides.

Pro Tools Setup Continued
7) Setups Menu > Peripherals > Synchronization: device = Generic MTC reader. Port = VS-880 (or, if this doesn’t work try 001 or Digi 002)
8) Operations Menu > Set to ONLINE or select the clock on the left side of the Pro Tools Transport. (Transport = Pro Tools). Press Record button. Both Online and Record button will flash until sync begins. Sync will begin when you press play on the Roland VS-880.
9) Setups > Preferences> Operation: Record Online at Insertion/Selection.
10) Record enable all audio tracks.
11) Press play on the VS-880 and Pro Tools will sync and go into record.

VS-880
1) Set to Master
2) Sync Mode = Internal
3) select MTC for MIDI OUT connector
4) MTC Type = 30 (fps).

Sonar 2.2 may not launch when using MIDI ports on Digidesign hardware in Pro Tools 6.1.1 XP.
When using the MIDI ports of Digidesign hardware (Digi 002, Digi 002 Rack, or Digi 001) with Sonar 2.2, you may experience problems launching Sonar. The workaround is to either disable SysEx messaging in the preferences of Sonar, or disable the MIDI ports of your Digidesign hardware within Sonar.
