| Crash when instantiating Virus Indigo in Pro Tools 6.1 on an HD system, or when opening older sessions that contain Virus Indigo. |
The Virus Indigo plug-in provided with the Virus Indigo installer included on the Pro Tools 6.1 TDM CD does not work correctly on OS X-based Pro Tools HD systems. OS X-based Pro Tools 24|Mix systems and all Windows XP-based Pro Tools systems are not affected.
The plug-in will crash your Pro Tools HD system when instantiated, or when opening older sessions including Indigo. Please do not use the installer included on the CD for updating or demo purposes. Previous installations of the Virus Indigo plug-in from Pro Tools 6.0 (Mac OS X) and 6.0.1 (Mac OS X) will work fine with Pro Tools 6.1 software.
An updated version of the Virus Indigo plug-in installer for OS X-based Pro Tools 6.1 will be posted on the Digidesign website’s Downloads section. Please download and use the web version of this plug-in installer if you want to use the 6.1 revision of the Virus Indigo Plug-In.
New Pro Tools|HD system purchasers can find a revised working version of the Indigo Virus plug-in on the Pro Tools|HDpack 4.0 CD included with HD core systems. An updated version of the plug-in will also be included on the Digidesign 6.1 Development Partners Plug-Ins CD.

|
| After installing Avid Xpress Pro and Pro Tools 6.1: You have two stereo or two surround mixers in your Plug-Ins folder. Pro Tools can only run with one of these plug-ins in this folder. Please move one of them to the "Plug-Ins (Unused)" folder. |
This error can occur if the permissions on the DAE file are changed to Read Only. The Avid Free DV 1.0.1 Mac OS X installer inadvertently does this.
To correct this problem, do the following:
1. Locate the DAE file in /System/Library/CFM Support/
2. Get Info on it (Command + I)
3. Switch the Ownership to your account (the one that says "Me" next to it)
4. Switch the Permissions to "Read and Write".
Please note that this is not an issue with the Windows XP version of Avid Xpress Pro

|
| "The application Pro Tools has unexpectedly quit" in Pro Tools 6.x on Mac OS 10.2.3 or higher. |
There may be a problem with permissions for the current user.
Try creating a new user with admin privileges and install Pro Tools to the new user account:
Uninstall Pro Tools by running the Pro Tools installer on your installation CD and Choose Custom > Uninstall.
Then go to System Preferences and create a new user (make sure to check the box to make the new user an Administrator).
From the Apple menu, log out and log back in under the new admin user you just created.
Reinstall Pro Tools to the new User Account and launch Pro Tools.

|
| When working in Pro Tools LE 6.0 for OS X, I get an error message: Pro Tools has unexpectedly quit. (Specifically for Mbox) |
Here are some possible solutions to this error message:
1) Verify you are using a supported Mac Computer. Supported computer information can be found at http://www.digidesign.com/compato/
2) Make sure you are using a supported version of the OS. To check this: Apple Menu > About this Mac. (Mac OS 10.2.3, 10.2.4, 10.2.5, & 10.2.6 are supported, you can a download the update from http://www.apple.com/)
3) Verify how much memory is installed. There should be a minimum of 512 mb of RAM installed. To check this: Apple Menu > About this Mac.
4) Trash Preferences:
Mac Hard Drive > Users > users file folder > Library > Preferences. Drag to Trash: com.digidesign.protools.plist, DAE prefs.(the entire folder), Digisetup.OSX and any Pro Tools LE preferences files.
5) For all Mounted Hard drives trash the contents of the Digidesign Databases folder: Go to Mac Hard Drive (or the hard drive with your OSX installation)> Digidesign Database > Volume.ddb and possibly Cache.wfm
6) Trash Databases Folder (If present):
Mac Hard Drive > Library > Application Support > Digidesign > Databases > Trash Volumes folder. Empty trash. Restart.
7) Configure System Preferences:
System Preferences can be found on the Dock or in your Apple menu.
a) Open Classic > Start/Stop Tab. Uncheck > Start Classic when you log in. (To go from Classic System preference back to the System Preferences main window hold down the Apple/Command key and the letter L )
b) Open Energy Saver. Uncheck anything that allows the computer to go to sleep/shutdown/ power save etc. and set the timer bars to 'Never'... ( apple + L)
c)Open Date & Time. Verify that the date is correctly set
Go to the Network Time and check the box > Use a network time server.
d) Disable any Virus Protection Software.
8) Repair Permissions:
Mac HD > Applications > Utilities > Launch Disk Utility. In the left Column all your mounted Drives/Volumes will be listed. For each drive there will be 2 listings one that will be indented and one that is not. You want to select the Indented one for each drive (it will say something like MAC HD or what ever you named each Volume)
Then Click on the Information Tab. Verify that the drive has been formatted HFS or HFS +
Next, click on the First Aid Tab. Select Repair Permissions. Do this for ALLvolumes (Indented listings)
Restart you computer
9) If you have not already updated to Pro Tools Version 6.1.2 (for Jaguar versions 10.2.3 through 10.2.8) or Pro Tools 6.4 (for Panther version 10.3.2) Do so now by going to www.digidesign.com > Support > Downloads > Pro Tools LE 6.1.2 or 6.4
10) Unplug any other USB devices from the computer, then restart the computer before launching Pro Tools (this will ensure that the driver for the other USB device is not loaded upon startup.).
11) Multiple copies or installations of OSX on the same computer can cause conflicts. If you have other copies (created by copying the System and associated files to another drive) or installations of OSX, removing them may alleviate some 'Unexpectedly Quit' errors.
12) Open Login items in your System Preferences Panel and disable all Login items. Restart your computer before launching Pro Tools.
13) Unplug the Mbox from the USB cable, restart the computer and once you're up to the desktop, plug the USB cable back into the Mbox and launch Pro Tools.

|
| Pro Tools cannot play the DV movie out the Firewire port because an error (#"709") was encountered. If another application is using the DV decoder, you'll need to quit that application to enable Pro Tools to use the DV decoder. |
This has been seen in Pro Tools 5.3.1 and higher when attempting to play DV video in Pro Tools through a Canopus ADVC-100 decoder when other video applications such as Avid Xpress DV or Final Cut Pro are launched. Quit any third party video applications and try again.

|
| QuickTime streaming audio does not play at 128 Buffer Size setting when using the Digidesign CoreAudio Driver. |
This is a known issue.
The Digidesign CoreAudio Driver does not support QuickTime streaming audio at a Buffer Size setting of 128. You must increase the Buffer Size to play QuickTime streaming audio.
In more recent versions of CoreAudio driver (for Panther and Tiger OS), 128 Buffer Size is supported.

|
| When attempting to playback a selection in AVoption or AVoption|XL, the selection adjusts itself to a larger size than the original selection. |
AVoption and AVoption|XL automatically expands a selection to the nearest frame boundaries when there is Avid video loaded on the timeline. If there is no video or QuickTime video, this does not occur. The frame rate is determined by the session frame rate as set in the Session Setup window.
Although black burst is required with AVoption and AVoption|XL, this behavior will occur even if no black burst is connected. The system is designed to be locked to black burst and must lock to the black frame edge when Avid video is loaded.

|
| When consolidating I get error message(s):1. Unable to create a new audio file on drive "list drive" for track "lists track"2. ...because Attempt to position mark before start of file (-40). 3. DAE -1309 was encountered. |
This all seems to be in reference to the 2Gig file limit size. While Mac OS 10 doesn't have a 2 Gb limit, Pro Tools still does.
The different error messages seem to be related to the Pro Tools session file (and what OS and digidesign system was used to create the session--i.e. Pro Tools software or hardware).
With a new OS 10/PT 6.0 session I get (-40) error immediately!
With a relatively new PT session--originating on OS 9--I get the -1309 error. It doesn't occur until into the duplicate.
With a really old PT session I get "unable to create a new audio file... immediately!
