Combined Standalone Installer for Digidesign Hardware Without Pro Tools
Owners of Pro Tools HD 7.0/7.1/7.2 or Pro Tools LE 7.0/7.1/7.1.2 software for Windows XP can install the Digidesign ASIO Driver and Digidesign WaveDriver as an option during Pro Tools installation, using the box in the Pro Tools installer dialogue that is already checked by default.
There is no need for Pro Tools 7 users to download the Standalone Digidesign Audio Drivers from this page.
The following information is for users of either the Standalone installer or the Pro Tools installers for the ASIO Driver and WaveDriver:
Digidesign ASIO Driver
The Digidesign ASIO Driver is a single-client, multichannel sound driver that allows third-party audio programs that support the ASIO Driver standard to record and play back through the following Digidesign hardware:
- Pro Tools|HD audio interfaces
- Digi 002
- Digi 002 Rack
- Mbox 2 Pro
- Mbox 2
- Mbox
Full-duplex playback of 24- and 16-bit audio are supported at sample rates up to 48 kHz, depending on your Digidesign hardware and ASIO client application.
The Digidesign ASIO Driver provides the following numbers of input and output channels:
- Up to 8 channels of input and output with Pro Tools|HD systems
- Up to 18 channels of input and output with Digi 002 and Digi 002 Rack
- Up to 4 channels of input and 2 channels of output with Mbox 2
- Up to 2 channels of input and output with Mbox
The ASIO Driver is not multi-client. Only one application at a time can use the ASIO Driver. Be sure to disable the Windows system sounds. It is also recommended that you use a separate sound card for games or other general work.
The ASIO Driver cannot be used if another application on the system is sending audio to Digidesign hardware through the Digidesign Wavedriver. If your system has both the Wavedriver and ASIO Driver installed be sure to disable Windows system sounds. It is also recommended that you use a separate sound card for games or other general work.

Digidesign ASIO Driver Q & A
Q: Is there a Mac OS X version of the Digidesign ASIO Driver?
A: No. The Digidesign Core Audio Driver is used on Mac OS X. Also, in a joint collaboration with Propellerhead Software, Digidesign has added Rewire 2 support with all Pro Tools 6.1 and higher systems for Mac OS X and Windows XP.
Q: With the ASIO Driver, will it be possible to use non-Digidesign hardware (such as MOTU or RME cards) with Pro Tools software?
A: No. The ASIO Driver can only be used in configurations with Digidesign hardware and software programs that support the ASIO standard.
