|
| Media Station PT 2.7 on Windows XP does not work correctly with Digidesign audio hardware. |
If Media Station PT does not play back audio through your Digidesign hardware (192 I/O), or freezes on launch at "initializing audio hardware", or throws multiple Access Violation or other errors, you should check the following:
1. All Windows updates must be installed PRIOR to installing Media Station PT. The Digidesign Audio Drivers will not install without certain Windows updates present on the system. This can be done from http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
2. Make sure you have at least one 192 I/O and a SYNC I/O connected to your Pro Tools HD card, and that loop sync is correctly configured between them [please refer to the Expanded Systems Guide for detailed information].
3. Check in the Windows Device Manager that all Digidesign HD drivers have loaded correctly. To do this:
- Right-click "My Computer"
- Select "Manage", then click on "Device Manager"
- Expand "Sound, video and game controllers and check that no "Digidesign HD" devices have yellow exclamation marks (!) against them
- Also expand "Other devices" and check there are no "Multimedia Audio Controller" devices with yellow question marks (?) against them
Drivers for any Digidesign devices with a yellow exclamation mark or question mark will need to be updated. To do this, right-click the device, choose "Update Driver..." and let Windows find and load the driver automatically. In some cases it may be necessary to uninstall Media Station PT and Pro Tools completely and reinstall.
4. In some cases it may be necessary to disable any non-Digidesign soundcards in your system from Windows Device Manager (right-click the device and choose "Disable")

|
| Access Violation Exception errors on launching Avid Media Station PT 2.7 when "Initializing Media Streams Manager". |
In one case Avid Interplay and ISIS software had been installed prior to Media Station PT but had not been configured (and the computer had not been physically connected to ISIS).
To resolve this, either:
1. Install Media Station PT BEFORE any ISIS/Interplay software, or
2. Make sure the computer is connected to ISIS/Interplay and configured correctly before installing and launching Media Station PT

|
| After installing Media Station PT 2.7 and Pro Tools 7.4 on Windows XP, MSPT hangs on launch at "initializing audio hardware". |
In some cases it may be necessary to disable the built-in soundcard of the PC, either temporarily or permanently.
To do this:
1. Right-click "My Computer" and choose "Properties"
2. Under the Hardware tab, choose "Device Manager"
3. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers
4. Find the built-in soundcard (e.g. "SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio"), right-click it and choose "Disable"
In some cases it may also be necessary to do the following:
1. Disable all of the Digidesign HD drivers in Device Manager (as procedure above) IN ADDITION to the built-in soundcard
2. Launch Media Station PT (choosing "NO AUDIO") and open/create a project
3. Quit Media Station PT
4. Re-enable all of the Digidesign HD drivers in Device Manager (but NOT the built-in soundcard)

| Media Station 2.7 won't launch. I get the error, "Device driver TPDK not installed, re-install or reboot". |
In order to resolve this we recommend that you perform any available Windows XP updates. It might be necessary to update the PACE anti-piracy drivers as well.
To update the Pace drivers:
http://www.paceap.com/
To update Windows click on the Start menu to "All Applications" and the "Windows Update" link should be in the upper left corner of the window. Similarly, one can go directly to Microsoft website at:
http://www.update.microsoft.com

|
| When I attempt to launch Media Station 2.7 nothing happens. The application won't launch. The icon in the dock doesn't bounce either. |
|
This can occur if the hard drive's naming convention contains a slash (i.e., "/"). Removing the slash resolves the issue and Media Station 2.7 launches successfully.

Avid Media Station|PT Configuration Tips
|
| Avid Media Station|PT Configuration Tips |
Following is a list of changes you can make to get the best performance from your Media Station|PT system. Some of these are mentioned in the Media Station|PT Guide, some are not. If you are experiencing poor video output or loss of audio/video sync, check all of the following before contacting Customer Support, and check back frequently for new tips as we find them:
Power Schemes
Windows Only: Power Schemes should be set to Always On in Control Panel>Power Options
Video Output Settings
Video Quality Selector
Located at the bottom of the Media Station|PT timeline is the Video Quality selector.
- Draft quality (yellow/green) outputs a 1/4-resolution picture to all the monitors, but allows more real-time video effects. This is the default setting for every new project.
- Best Performance (yellow) outputs 1/16-resolution and supports the most real-time effects, but is the lowest-quality output.
- Full quality (green) outputs full resolution picture via the attached video peripheral. The DVI output is always Draft quality unless you select both Full Quality in the Video Quality Menu and Display both fields in the in the Full Screen Playback dialog.
- Performing a Digital Cut always changes the output to the tape deck to Full Quality automatically.
Full Screen Playback Dialog
To open this dialog, click the Settings tab in the Project window, then double-click the Full Screen Playback setting.
- Display Both Fields: When combined with the Full Quality setting in the Video Quality Menu (see above), this setting provides full-resolution output to the DVI port.
- Flip On Vertical Sync: If you notice that your video output is “tearing” (horizontal distortion on rapidly moving or heavily edited sequences), select this option. This may cause the video output to stutter, or cause sync problems.
Disabling Drive Indexing for External Audio and Video Storage (XP Only)
To use Media Station|PT, it is strongly recommended that you disable drive indexing for external audio and video storage.
To disable drive indexing for external media drives:
1 Choose Start > My Computer.
2 Right-click the selected external drives and choose Properties.
3 In the Properties dialog, deselect “Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching.”
4 Click Apply.
5 When prompted to apply only to the volume or to all folders and subfolders, select all folders and subfolders, then click OK.
Disabling drive indexing for all folders and subfolders begins. This may take some time.
Installing Correct nVidia Drivers (XP Only)
Installing the correct nVidia drivers is required for using Media Station|PT on Windows.
To install the nVidia drivers:
1 In Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files\Avid\Utilities\nVidia.
2 Double-click the executable installer file.
3 Follow the instructions to install the nVidia drivers.
It is recommended that after installing these drivers, you disable the nVidia Display Driver Service (see below)
Disabling the nVidia Display Driver Service (XP Only)
To use Media Station|PT, the nVidia Display Driver Service should be disabled.
To disable nVidia Display Driver Service:
1 Right-click My Computer, and choose Manage.
2 Double-click Services and Applications.
3 Double-click Services.
4 Right-click NVidia Display Driver or NVidia Driver Helper Service.
