What Is An iLok & Why Would I Need One?
Digidesign has transitioned all of our plug-in software copy protection from floppy drive based key disks to copy protection authorizations that reside on the iLok technology provide by PACE. The following is some information about iLok technology.
The iLok USB Hardware Key (pictured here) is a device that holds authorization keys and connects via the USB port to your computer.
The iLok USB Hardware Key enables you to carry all of your authorizations with you wherever you go using a single key:
- It's Portable: iLok enables you to easily move authorizations from one computer to another. Use your software at home, at the office, at a studio, or at a friend's house. iLok makes it portable.
- It's Safe: Authorizations are stored in the secure iLok USB Hardware Key — not on the computer or hard drive. iLok is immune to problems caused by machine upgrades, disk maintenance, hardware failures, and software updates.
- It's Convenient: Store all of your iLok-enabled software authorizations on a single iLok USB Hardware Key, regardless of developer
Using iLok.com & Electronic iLok License Transfers
Many products that are sold online can be purchased as web-only electronic licenses to activate optional plug-ins and software installed from web downloads or your Pro Tools CD. These include many plug-ins and optional software products sold as "Full License" or time-limited "Rental" licenses available on the DigiStore. For these electronic licenses, no iLok License Card is included or required. Licenses are purchased online, deposited to your iLok.com account, and then transferred to your iLok. This is a quick and easy process that allows you to purchase products online and use them immediately.
Many new boxed versions of iLok-enabled software products from Digidesign include an activation card with instructions on how to authorize your iLok using the Digidesign website. With these products, an Activation Code is used to deposit the licenses to your account on iLok.com.
What is my iLok User ID?
If you have not already done so, you would create a free iLok.com account yourself at iLok.com. Once you create an account there, your iLok User ID is what you use to login to your account on iLok.com (not your login password, which you also choose). Your iLok.com User ID is sometimes referred to as your "iLok ID", "iLok User ID", or "iLok Account". All of these are the same thing, your login name

When a customer purchases any Digidesign AudioSuite plug-in they get an AudioSuite plug-ins CD with all the plug-ins installers for Pro Tools 5.0 NT and Pro Tools 5.1.1 W2K.
This is a problem for customers who intend to use AudioSuite with AVID products because the AudioSuite installers for 5.0 NT are incompatible with Media Composer v 10.5,x Symphony 3.5.x and Express 4.5.x and up and the 5.1.1 W2K versions require Pro Tools hardware to be installed.
Solution. Use the Audio Suite plug-ins demo installer which is located on AVID's product CD in the goodies folder.

Normalize and Gain are the only DigiRack AudioSuite plug-in that automatically dithers. (Smack! and Sonic NoNOISE are examples of non-DigiRack Plug-ins that use AS Dither.)
The Pro Tools 7.3 Reference Guide (PN 9106-55991-00 REV A 1/07, pg 661) lists Normalize and Gain, but also incorrectly includes:
- EQ III
- Compressor II
- Limiter II
- Gate II
- Expander/Gate II
- DC Offset Removal
- Time Compression/Expansion
- Pitch Shift

"Could not be instantiated because of DAE error -9072"
VocALign Project for Pro Tools and VocALign Pro v2.9.4 are both compatible with Pro Tools 7.0 and higher. DAE error -9072 is caused by "User chose to cancel or quit operation from DAE dialog."
The fix is for the user to close and re-launch Pro Tools.
Both VocALign Project for Pro Tools and VocALign Pro have versions which are compatible with Pro Tools 7.x on Power PC and Intel-based Macs.

To get rid of persistent authorization screens for IK Multimedia Plug-ins perform the following steps:
Uninstall the offending IK Multimedia Plug-in:
- Insert the IK Multimedia CD
- Choose the folder and installer for the offending plug-in
(i.e. IK Multimedia (CD) > Sample Tank 2 SE > Install SampleTank 2 SE)
- When the installer gets to the "Easy Install" screen change "Easy Install" to "Uninstall"
- Continue through the uninstaller until it is finished
- Click the "Quit" button after the uninstall
Note: If this is happening for all your IK Multimedia Plug-ins follow these steps for all your IK Multimedia Plug-ins
Remove Old IK Multimedia Preference Files:
- Open MacHD > Library > Application Support > IK Multimedia
- Drag the folders of the offending plug-ins (i.e. SampleTank 2.x SE) to the trash.
- Empty the trash and restart your computer.
Reinstall the IK Multimedia Plug-in by following the steps in the read me file for that plug in.
Note: Installation on an Intel-based mac and on a Power PC mac may differ

In one case pulling the RMX Wrapper Plug-in from the Plug-ins folder and reinstalling the RMX plug-in from the Installer solved the problem.
Plug-ins folder is located:

In one case, updating from Stylus RMX v1.1 to v1.2, repairing permissions, and hiding Microsoft AU Daemon and Virex Login from startup items solved this issue.

Mix systems using Pro Tools v6.4.1 must use v4.1.1 of the Free Bomb Factory plug-ins:
These plug-ins include:

• Funk Logic Mastererizer
• bombfactory BF76
If you have installed v4.2 of the free Bomb Factory plug-ins, you will get a -7204 error message after instantiation.
