DAE error -28773 with Pro Tools M-Powered and Ozonic. Pro Tools crashes after displaying a lost communication message.
In one case, after a complete manual uninstall and reinstall, trashing the MIDI ByHost preference file solved this.

Mac HD > Users > Account > Library > Preferences > ByHost

drag to trash: com.apple.MIDI.abunchofnumbers.plist [Page View]

What is the Digidesign Plug-In Validator?

What is the Digidesign Plug-In Validator?
This is a utility that allows you to check the version of your non-Digidesign plug-ins to determine whether or not they need to be updated for use with the currently installed version of Pro Tools.

To use the Digidesign Plug-In Validator:
Launch the "Digidesign Plug-In Validator" application located in your Pro Tools Utilities folder. If any of your non-Digidesign plug-ins have not been updated, they will be listed in the display window. Please visit the Web site for the manufacturer of any affected plug-ins and download the update (if available), or ask the manufacturer when one will be available.

This utility was originally introduced with Pro Tools 6.2.2 due to a PACE copy protection bug. Some users experience instability and/or crashes when launching Pro Tools, opening a session, or dismissing a trial-period dialog if any Pace-wrapped third party plug-ins are installed. The fix for this bug is in the latest PACE drivers included and installed automatically within the Pro Tools software installer. Updates to all plug-ins are also necessary to prevent instability and/or crashes. All plug-ins supplied with the Pro Tools 6.2.3 installer have been fixed. Even if you do not have updates for all your plug-ins, instability would only occur immediately after adding or removing a plug-in from your Pro Tools Plug-Ins folder. After the first crash and subsequent reboot, you should not see any further problems, unless you then add or remove plug-ins from the Plug-Ins folder.

I installed Pro Tools LE 5.1 (Mac) and D-Verb asks for key disk authorization. I only have a serial number. Do I need a key disk?
No, you don't need a key disk, you need to install the correct version of D-Verb, which uses your D-Verb serial number/authorization code.

Installing Pro Tools LE 5.1 or the D-Verb Plug-In Demo over previous installs of Pro Tools LE will remove your FREE D-Verb Plug-In. To keep your FREE D-Verb Plug-in from being overwritten by the Pro Tools LE 5.1 and D-Verb Demo Installers, remove both the D-Verb and D-Verb AS Plug-Ins from your Plug-Ins folder. Place the plug-ins in a temporary location other than the Pro Tools Plug-Ins folder and outside of your System Folder, such as on your Desktop. The Plug-Ins folder is located in the following directory:System Folder:DAE Folder:Plug-Ins

After removing the D-Verb & D-Verb AS Plug-Ins from the Plug-Ins folder, run the Pro Tools 5.1 LE Installer. Once the Pro Tools 5.1 installation is complete, both the D-Verb and D-Verb AS Plug-Ins can be returned to the Plug-Ins folder. An updated FREE D-Verb Installer for Pro Tools LE users is posted on the Digidesign website in Support/Downloads at:

http://www.digidesign.com/download/dverb.html

Note: If you have already run either the Pro Tools LE 5.1 or D-Verb Demo Installer and fear you have overwritten your FREE D-Verb Plug-Ins,you can still reinstall the FREE D-Verb Plug-In Promotion from the Pro Tools LE 5.0.1 Software CD.

The D-Verb serial number for newly purchased systems is located on the "FREE D-Verb for Pro Tools LE" promotion brightly colored postcard that is included with the system. If you upgraded to Pro Tools LE 5.1 the authorization from D-Verb 1.7 will still be valid for D-Verb 1.8.

Since both the authorization code and the key disk versions of D-Verb 1.8 have the same version number, you can tell them apart by viewing their creation date:

D-Verb 1.8 (authorization code version) has a creation date of Feb 21, 2001.
D-Verb 1.8 (key disk authorization version) has a creation date of Jan 18, 2001.

To keep your FREE D-Verb Plug-in from being overwritten by the Pro Tools LE 5.1 and D-Verb Demo Installers, remove both the D-Verb and D-Verb AS Plug-Ins from your Plug-Ins folder.Place the plug-ins in a temporary location other than the Pro Tools Plug-Ins folder and outside of your System Folder, such as on your Desktop. If you continue to have problems with your D-Verb authorization, download D-Verb v1.8.1 from http://www.digidesign.com/download/dverb. This version of D-Verb (v1.8.1) does not require authorization. [Page View]
