|
Pro Tools session does not play back at the correct speed; it is playing back either faster or slower than it should (it is playing back at the wrong pitch; it is higher or lower than it should be). Or, Bounce to Disk results in a file that sounds slower or faster than the original session.
This will happen as a result of having had Pro Tools clock off an external device which is set to a sample rate that is different from the sample rate of the Pro Tools session and then switching back to internal clock in Pro Tools. For example, you have a 44.1k Pro Tools session and you are clocking off an external device (e.g. an ADAT) that is set to 48k, your files will actually be recorded at 48k. In Pro Tools, if you then switch the Clock Source to Internal, the playback will sound slow.
The workaround is to do the following:
1. Create a new session at the correct sample rate, i.e. the sample rate that the external device was set to when Pro Tools was clocking to it. Make sure the new session is the same bit-depth (16 or 24) and file type (AIFF/BWF/SDII) as the original session.
2. In the new session, go to File>Import Session Data and open the original session.
3. In the Import Session Data window, in the Sample Rate Conversion Options section, uncheck the box next to "Apply SRC."
4. Highlight all the tracks you wish to import.
5. Click the "OK" button.
The new session will now playback at the correct speed.

Pro Tools unable to relink to audio files and fade files that have illegal characters when Mac/PC compatibility not enabled.
A Pro Tools session is unable to relink to audio files and fades that have illegal characters if the session was copied without the Enable Mac/PC Compatibility option enabled. The workaround is to open the DigiBase Project Browser and manually relink each file by File ID.

Voice limitations with AFL/PFL solo and delay compensation.
When using AFL/PFL solo mode and Delay Compensation concurrently, the number of voices will be lowered.
For example, running a 7.1 session on an HD Accel 3 system, when Delay Compensation with a Long Delay Compensation is enabled and AFL/PFL mode is enabled, only 138 voices can be allocated under the 192 Voice/6 DSP Engine.

While launching, Pro Tools freezes when its splash screen gets to creating DAE Objects. A blank dialog with an "okay" button appears. Clicking okay, quits Pro Tools.
Trashing all the Digidesign Databases folders on each drive may solve the problem. In addition, trash the Pro Tools preferences, update to the latest version of PACE drivers (from www.paceap.com) and if necessary uninstall and reinstall Pro Tools. If connecting to a G5, try a different firewire port on the mac.

frequently on my machine, initiating playback results in a 3-10 second SWOD pause, and then no playback; the cursor returns to normal, restoring control to the user, but no playback or DAE error communicating the termination of playback.
This was reported to happen on a G4 computer that only had 256 megs of ram. Adding more ram so that it was at the 512 megs recommended, solved this problem.
Please check the compatibility page at

for information on memory requirements for your computer and the version of Pro Tools you are running.
