Pro Tools Unique ID, file name, and date modified appear to change at random.
This is a known issue in Pro Tools HD, LE, and M-Powered versions 7.1cs7 - 7.4 (Mac OS X, Windows XP/Vista).

This is only occurs with audio files that have been recorded on tracks with names that include an underscore or a dash.

Each subsequent take of a record pass will ignore the first dash or underscore and use the suffix as the file name (but not the region name), sometimes causing a new file to be written with a new date modified.

"Another version of Pro Tools appears to be installed on this computer. ...

"Another version of Pro Tools appears to be installed on this computer. Please use the "Add or Remove Programs" control panel to uninstall the existing version of Pro Tools and restart this computer before reinstalling Pro Tools."
The above error may be seen when you try to remove Pro Tools from a Windows system. The error usually results if Pro Tools fails to install properly.

There are 2 things you may try to resolve this:

1) Download Reg Cleaner, a free utility, that will allow you to easily remove all Digidesign items from your registry. Click here for Reg Cleaner download page (by Jouni Vuoro).

2) Try running -fix, See the instructions below:

If you cannot completely remove Pro Tools from the Windows Add/Remove Programs list, then the application has become stuck in the Windows Registry. There is a simple way to remove all Registry Keys and Drivers associated with Pro Tools:

Click “Start” choose “Run”.
  • Type in the full path to “setup.exe” on the install disc, or on the appropriate folder and hard drive if the installer was downloaded (make sure you surround the path in quotes).
  • At the end of the path, add “ -fix” (there should be a space before the –fix).
  • Click OK

It should look like this (assuming D: is the drive letter for the DVD drive):

You can also drag the setup.exe file to the Run box and it will type the path in for you. Then just add " –fix" to the end.

This will work for all Windows versions of Pro Tools 7.0 and higher: M-Powered, LE, and HD. Please note, however, that though this utility is built into the installer application, it has not been tested or qualified by Digidesign and should be used only if Add/Remove Programs does not completely uninstall Pro Tools.

Disclaimer: Please note that Digidesign does not test this fix; thus, it is not considered to be "supported". However, this fix has often been used successfully during Technical Support calls.

Blue Screen On Windows XP when Plugging in Mbox 2. Blue Screen error reports Driver usbaudio.sys
Upon installing Mbox 2 on a windows XP system, a blue screen was encountered immediately when the Mbox 2 was plugged into the computer. This issue has been seen with Pro Tools LE 7.0 & 7.3.

Removing the driver usbaudio.sys from Windows/system32/drivers, while in Safe Mode, enabled installation of the Mbox 2 in Normal Mode without further Blue Screen.

Steps:
1) Uninstall Pro Tools if an entry exists in add/remove Programs.
Note: If Pro Tools will not uninstall refer to this fix: http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?navid=54&langid=100&itemid=27391
2) Shut Down your Computer. Hold down F8 to boot up in Safe Mode.
3) Once in Safe Mode, remove the usbaudio.sys from Windows/system32/drivers and place the file on the desktop.
4) Restart your system and boot into Normal Mode.
5) Plug in Mbox 2 and run the Pro Tools Installer. You should be able to install the Mbox 2 without encountering a blue screen.

Note: After you have successfully installed the Mbox 2 drivers without encountering a blue screen, you may revert to safe mode and place the usbaudio.sys driver back into Windows/system32/drivers.
