How do I optimize my PC for use with a Windows Digi 001, Tool Box, or Pro Tools Free system?
Start with the fastest Pentium III or AMD Thunderbird Processor you can afford (single processor) and at least 192 MB of RAM.

IMPORTANT: See Dig i001 for Windows compatibility section of the Digidesign Website for complete compatibility requirements: http://www.digidesign.com/compato/

We have seen better performance on computers that have less components attached and non-custom versions of the BIOS or Windows. For maximum performance, a dedicated qualified ATA/IDE or SCSI disk drive with FAT32 file system is required.

All Pro Tools LE sessions should be stored on a dedicated drive and all Digidesign system files should be stored on the system boot drive. Although it is possible to record sessions to your PC's boot drive, this is not recommended and full 24-track performance is not guaranteed.

After Installing your Digi 001 hardware and software in your PC, please make the following adjustments to your Windows settings to ensure optimal performance:

Disable Auto-Insert Notification for CD-Rom and removable media drives:

* From the desktop, right-click My Computer and choose Properties.

* In the System Control Panel, click the Device Manager tab.

* Locate and double-click the device for your CD-ROM. In the CD Rom Properties dialog, click the Settings tab.

* Deselect the option for Auto Insert Notification and click OK.

* Repeat for any removable media devices, such as JAZ and ZIP drives.

* Close the System Control Panel.

Enable DMA for any IDE Drives:

* From the desktop, right-click on My Computer and choose Properties.

* In the System Control Panel, click on the Device Manager tab.

* Locate and double-click the device for your IDE hard drive. In the Disk Drive Properties dialog, click the Settings tab.

* Enable (check) the DMA option and click O.K.

* Repeat for any additional IDE drives.

* Close the System Control Panel. Restart computer.

Other Software and Hardware Affecting System Performance.
Pro-Tools LE can also be affected by other software and hardware drivers installed on your computer. For best possible performance, it is recommended that you:

* Avoid running other Windows programs at the same time as Pro Tools LE.

* Turn off any software utilities that run in the background, such as calendars and virus protection.

* Disable Windows System sounds. In the Sound Control Panel set the Sound Scheme to No Sounds.

* If your video display card supports it, enable Bus Mastering in the manufacturer's Control Panel.

* Disable any networking cards.

* Turn off any power management features of your system.

After I installed Pro Tools Free, Pro Tools TDM or Pro Tools LE does not launch.
Pro Tools Free will not run in conjunction with another version of Pro Tools. If you have installed Pro Tools Free over another version of Pro Tools, you will need to reinstall Pro Tools TDM or LE if you wish to use that version of Pro Tools.

Note that on the MAC all non Pro Tools Free components will be moved to the Obsoleted Digidesign Software folder.

If you are a Windows user have Pro Tools FREE installed on your computer, please do the following BEFORE installing the Digi001 or AMIII card in your computer:

1) Uninstall Pro Tools FREE (use the "Add/Remove Programs" applet in the Windows Control Panel)
2) Reboot your computer at least once
3) Turn your machine off and install the Digi001 or AMIII card
4) Proceed with the driver installation when you boot Windows, then Run the Pro Tools LE installer

If you don't remove Pro Tools FREE (and reboot) before installing the Digi001/AMIII card, you will need to reinstall the drivers. If you don't reinstall the drivers you will see 'DAE is low on memory' when you try to launch Pro Tools LE. To reinstall the AMIII/Digi001 drivers, go to Control Panel/System/Device Manager and bring up Properties for the AMIII/Digi001 device. Click the 'Update Driver' button on the Driver Tab and choose to browse for the driver files (in the WaveDriver98 folder on the Pro Tools LE Installer).

Digi 001 OMS Driver v5.0.1
The Digi 001 OMS driver v5.0.1 is required in addition to DSI 5.0.1 and the Direct I/O library in order to eliminate incompatibilities when third party applications communicate with the Digi 001 via Direct I/O and OMS simultaneusly. Symptoms include: 1-No MIDI output from the Digi 001 2-Random MIDI events on MIDI input through the Digi 001.

I am experiencing a significant delay in Pro Tools 5 between the time I hit Play and the time it actually begins playing audio. My disk cache in Memory Control Panel is 512k.
Check to see if the application memory minimums are set correctly for Pro Tools and/or DAE. Quit Pro Tools, get info on the Pro Tools and/or DAE application icon, go to Memory, highlight the number in the Minimum field, type zero and hit return. Relaunch Pro Tools.

This solved one instance on a G4/450 running OS 9.0.2 with Mix Plus. [Page View]

Program errors occurring when trying to Pitch Shift a long file without Time Correction using Audio Suite.
Reducing the Disk Cache to 512k from the default setting may help eliminate this error.

-This user was processing a 40 minute split stereo pair, pitch shifting it down one octave, into an 80 minute split stereo pair.
-Shorter files processed correctly, but this long pair of files would throw a program error every time.
