Mbox 2 Beta Firmware & Driver Update Kit v1.38
For Select PowerBook G4s Only
For more information on this issue, please see Mbox 2 Compatibility Information with PowerBook G4
http://www.digidesign.com/compato/osx/mbox2/pb.cfm
From the Mbox 2 Firmware v1.38.pdf Read Me document, included with both downloads:
We have identified a potential problem with some aluminum Apple PowerBook G4 models. These laptops may not provide sufficient power from one or both of their built-in USB ports.
Digidesign is providing a beta firmware and driver update to help counteract these issues. Only users experiencing a lack or loss of communication with Mbox 2 and a PowerBook G4 should use this update. If you do not have a PowerBook G4, there is no need to update your Mbox 2 firmware with this version.
Macintosh users that update to this firmware will not have their Mbox 2 recognized on a Windows-based PC unless they also update the Mbox 2 drivers on that Windows machine. Note that you only need to do the following if you have updated your Mbox 2 firmware as above, and want to use your Mbox 2 on both a Macintosh and a Windows computer.

If "Allow Processor Cycling" is enabled in the Energy Saver control panel, The Pro Tools transport is subject to very poor performance and will throw -60xx errors. Always disable "Allow Processor Cycling" for best performance.
If you have a "Processor Performance" drop down menu, select the "Highest" setting. Also, make sure Airport and Bluetooth services are disabled.

Attaching Mbox 2 to computer while Digi 002 is also connected and a session is open, or while using Core Audio may cause kernel panics or SWOD.
This is a known issue in Pro Tools LE 8 (Mac OS X).
You should never connect another interface while the current interface is being used by Pro Tools or another application via Core Audio.

Sessions that previously played fine in 7.4 are encountering 9073 errors in Pro Tools 8 with an Mbox 2 and audio played from SATA drives.
On certain systems you may see a reduction in the number of total tracks of playback you can get from a SATA drive in Pro Tools 8 vs. Pro Tools 7.x.
The workaround is to split the number of audio tracks between 2 or more drives.

Blue screen with Mbox 2 & Disabling DEP (Data Execution Prevention) on Windows Vista.
If you are getting a blue screen when you connect your Mbox 2 (Mbox, Mbox 2 Micro, Mbox 2 Mini, or Mbox 2 Pro) to your Windows Vista computer, disabling DEP (Data Exectution Prevention) will resolve that problem. Follow the instructions below to disable DEP.
1. Click on the Start menu.
2. In the Start menu's search box, type in "cmd" (without the quotation marks). The result you get should be "cmd.exe".
3. Right-click on "cmd.exe" and choose "Run as administrator".
3a. Click the Allow button if it asks you for permission.
4. Type or copy & paste this into the command prompt window:
bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff
5. Hit enter and you should see the confirmation: Operation Completed Successfully.
6. Restart the computer and DEP should be off.
If you would like to re-enable DEP enter the following into the command prompt window:
bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx OptIn
Hit enter and you should see the confirmation: Operation Completed Successfully. After restarting the computer, DEP will be re-enabled. If you are experiencing this problem and re-enable DEP, please be aware that the blue screen problem may return.

In one case, the user had the Mbox 2 connected to a USB hub on a MacBook Pro.
The Mbox 2 must be connected directly into a USB port on the computer. Hubs are not supported.
