Registering Your Digidesign Product

Registering Your Digidesign Product
In order to qualify for registration as a new system, the Digidesign product must have been purchased new from an Authorized Digidesign Dealer. Please see the Dealer Locator page in the About Us section of the website for Authorized Digidesign Dealers worldwide.

For more information on what registration entitles you to, please see the registration booklet included with all retail Digidesign product packages.

Authorized US Digidesign dealers do not sell Digidesign products on eBay.com or other online auction sites in the US. If you purchase a Digidesign product from an online auction site, you may be purchasing from someone other than an Authorized Digidesign Dealer, and your product may not be registered as a new product.

If you do not have a receipt with an authorized dealer's name on it (see list of Authorized Digidesign Dealers), then you did NOT buy from an authorized dealer even though it may have been advertised as such. This product will then be considered as used or previously owned and is not entitled to free Technical Support or free software upgrades. Some companies do have authorized online stores, such as Musician's Friend (the online outlet for Guitar Center stores), but they are not allowed to sell on auction sites such as eBay.

Online Product Registration

In 2005, Digidesign introduced a new online registration process for new products that include an online registration card. For information on this process, please see the Digidesign Product Registration section of the website.

Click on "Register Your Product" for an example of the online registration card included with new systems manufactured in February 2005 and later.

If you purchased a new Pro Tools core hardware system (Pro Tools|HD, Digi 002, Digi OO2 Rack, Mbox 2 Pro, Mbox 2, Mbox), please make sure to register both your core hardware unit and any additional software included such as the HDpack, Ignition Pack, or Factory Bundle at the Digidesign Online Registration section of the website.

For support purposes and eligibility for free updates, the actual hardware unit must be registered, not just the additional software.

Products manufactured by Digidesign prior to February 2005 do not include the registration card that will allow you to register online. These older products include a registration booklet with a white registration form that you must mail or fax to Digidesign.

Registration Alert for Mbox 2 Pro Owners

For important information about registration that may apply to you, please see the following article:

Previous Product Registration — Mail or Fax

If an online registration card was not included with your new product purchase, please fill out the white registration card included with the purchase and either mail it in or fax it to 650-930-2855 marked "Attention: Registration". To fax from outside of the US, use the fax number for your Local Digidesign Office or fax to the US registration fax number: 001-650-930-2855.

If you did not receive a registration card, please fax a copy of your original sales receipt from an Authorized Digidesign Dealer with all serial numbers clearly displayed on the fax. Hardware serial numbers can be [More]

Can Command|8 and HUI (or another control surface) work together?

Can Command|8 and HUI (or another control surface) work together?
No, Command|8 must be the only MIDI control surface enabled within Pro Tools.

Command|8 may be used with non-MIDI control surfaces (D-Control, D-Command, ProControl or Control|24) with some limitations.

When used with Control|24, Command|8 faders overlap (i.e. duplicate) the left-most eight faders currently banked on Control|24.

Command|8 is not recognized by Windows XP after installing its software from the Pro Tools Installer.
This may indicate that the maximum number of MIDI driver entries (10) in your registry has been exceeded.

In most cases, at least one duplicate or obsolete entry can be deleted to accommodate Command|8 USB communication by doing the following:

To check the number of MIDI drivers in your registry:
  • Choose Start > Run.
  • Run “regedit” to display the Windows registry editor.
  • Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE tab.
  • Expand the SOFTWARE tab.
  • Expand the Microsoft tab.
  • Expand the Windows NT tab.
  • Click the Current Version tab.
  • Choose Drivers.32 to display the Drivers.32 tab.
  • Look at the entries in the right hand panel for MIDI entries listed as “midi” “midi1” and so on. If the highest “midi” entry is 8, then no action is required. (Skip the following steps and repeat the software installation steps in “Windows Software for Command|8” on page 10 to see if problems persist.)
  • If there is an entry for “midi9” then the maximum number of MIDI drivers has been reached and at least one must be removed in order for the Command|8 driver installation to succeed.
To update the number of MIDI drivers in your registry:
  • Identify any identical (duplicate) entries and delete the one with the highest entry number. For example, if there are “rddv1009.dll” entries in midi3 and midi4, delete the higher one (midi4).
  • Identify any unused or obsolete entries and delete them.
  • Repeat the software installation (see “Installing Software for Command|8” on page 9).

Small changes in Command|8 fader position when touched but not moved.
The V02.01.01.srec firmware update fixes an issue related to fader movement that may affect Command|8 users.

Some units report small changes in fader position when touched but not moved. This firmware applies a filter so only valid positional changes are recognized and communicated.

If your unit has firmware v02.00.02 or earlier, you should install this update.

Updating the Firmware on your Command|8

App V02.01.01 requires C8FirmwareUpdater V1.4 for installation.

  • Download the C8Firmware Updater V1.4 and the file named App V02.01.01.srec. and expand them to your desktop. There are separate Updaters for Mac and Windows XP. Be sure to use C8Firmware Updater V1.4 and not the one from the Pro Tools 6.4 installer.
  • Make sure Command|8 is connected to your computer and powered on.
  • Launch the Updater and press the 'Update Firmware' button.
  • Navigate to the V02.01.01.srec file, click on it and the update process will begin automatically.

If you are working in Pro Tools with the Command|8 and enter Standalone mode to work with third party applications or external MIDI devices, when you press the Standalone button to return to Pro Tools you’ll be presented with the Save/Exit dialog.
Pro Tools 7.x users
This issue has been addressed in the firmware included within Pro Tools 7. Launching Pro Tools 7.x with the Command|8 connected should prompt the firmware update.

Pro Tools 6.x users
1) Copy the C8FirmwareUpdater from your Pro Tools 6.x installer CD.
2) Make sure the Command|8 is connected to your computer and powered on.
3) Launch the Updater and press the ‘Update Firmware’ button.
4) Navigate to the .srec file and click on it (the update process should begin automatically).

If you do not have access to your Pro Tools 6.x Installer CD, you can download the Firmware App here

Workaround: If you do not update the Command|8 firmware, you should press Exit to return directly to Pro Tools. If you do need to save the preset, you may. However, you’ll need to return to Pro Tools, un-declare the Command|8 from the Setups>Peripherals menu, close it, then re-declare the unit. [Page View]
