Registering Your Digidesign Product

| Registering Your Digidesign Product |
In order to qualify for registration as a new system, the Digidesign product must have been purchased new from an Authorized Digidesign Dealer. Please see the Dealer Locator page in the About Us section of the website for Authorized Digidesign Dealers worldwide.
For more information on what registration entitles you to, please see the registration booklet included with all retail Digidesign product packages.
Authorized US Digidesign dealers do not sell Digidesign products on eBay.com or other online auction sites in the US. If you purchase a Digidesign product from an online auction site, you may be purchasing from someone other than an Authorized Digidesign Dealer, and your product may not be registered as a new product.
If you do not have a receipt with an authorized dealer's name on it (see list of Authorized Digidesign Dealers), then you did NOT buy from an authorized dealer even though it may have been advertised as such. This product will then be considered as used or previously owned and is not entitled to free Technical Support or free software upgrades. Some companies do have authorized online stores, such as Musician's Friend (the online outlet for Guitar Center stores), but they are not allowed to sell on auction sites such as eBay.
Online Product Registration
In 2005, Digidesign introduced a new online registration process for new products that include an online registration card. For information on this process, please see the Digidesign Product Registration section of the website.
Click on "Register Your Product" for an example of the online registration card included with new systems manufactured in February 2005 and later.
If you purchased a new Pro Tools core hardware system (Pro Tools|HD, Digi 002, Digi OO2 Rack, Mbox 2 Pro, Mbox 2, Mbox), please make sure to register both your core hardware unit and any additional software included such as the HDpack, Ignition Pack, or Factory Bundle at the Digidesign Online Registration section of the website.
For support purposes and eligibility for free updates, the actual hardware unit must be registered, not just the additional software.
Products manufactured by Digidesign prior to February 2005 do not include the registration card that will allow you to register online. These older products include a registration booklet with a white registration form that you must mail or fax to Digidesign.
Registration Alert for Mbox 2 Pro Owners
For important information about registration that may apply to you, please see the following article:
Previous Product Registration — Mail or Fax
If an online registration card was not included with your new product purchase, please fill out the white registration card included with the purchase and either mail it in or fax it to 650-930-2855 marked "Attention: Registration". To fax from outside of the US, use the fax number for your Local Digidesign Office or fax to the US registration fax number: 001-650-930-2855.
If you did not receive a registration card, please fax a copy of your original sales receipt from an Authorized Digidesign Dealer with all serial numbers clearly displayed on the fax. Hardware serial numbers can be

Used Hardware Registration — Transfer of Ownership
To register used Digidesign hardware, you will need to fill out a Transfer of Ownership Form. Registration entitles you to participate in the Digidesign Hardware Exchange Program and certain repair services for your hardware. Please download and print this form and follow the same instructions listed above for new registration. (instructions included on the form)
If you are selling a used system, you should fill out the seller's portion of the Transfer of Ownership Form and include it with the sale.
The Pro Tools license is included with Pro Tools core hardware systems and cannot be sold separately (this includes any upgrades to the Pro Tools software). If you sell a core system, the included Pro Tools license then becomes the property of the new owner, and all future update and upgrade rights are transferred as well.
The seller is responsible for providing all Pro Tools software and Pro Tools authorizations for that software that should be included with a used core system. If the current software and authorizations were not included, the buyer must purchase a Pro Tools software upgrade from the DigiStore or an Authorized Digidesign Dealer. All purchased Pro Tools upgrades are complete installers that do not require previous installation of Pro Tools or registration, either to purchase or install the Pro Tools upgrades.

Registration of Plug-Ins and Optional Software Not Transferable
Digidesign will not transfer product registration for used plug-ins or other optional software from the original owner to another owner. Transfer of iLok authorizations by buyers and sellers can be done at www.iLok.com. Transfer of iLok licenses are between the individual parties. Digidesign will only register software purchased by the original owner, and only when purchased from an Authorized Digidesign Dealer.
Authorized US Digidesign dealers do not sell Digidesign products on eBay.com or other online auction sites in the US. If you purchase a Digidesign product from an online auction site, you may be purchasing from someone other than an Authorized Digidesign Dealer, and your software product may not be registered.

Troubleshooting Motorized Faders.
|
| Troubleshooting Motorized Faders. |
Below is a compilation of general information and troubleshooting for Digidesign's control surfaces with moving faders. Specifics regarding particular control surfaces (such as D-Control or 003) have been included after the generalized troubleshooting section with links to each console's Product Information page.
General Troubleshooting and Information
If you are experiencing sticky or fighting faders that don't react correctly to your touch (but respond to automation within Pro Tools), read the information below for valuable troubleshooting:
- Touch-sensitive faders rely on the capacitance of the human body relative to ground. Human capacitance is different between individuals, and can be changed by our immediate environment. For example, a touch sensitive fader may react differently to one person with dry hands than one with moist hands, since the moisture will conduct better during the process of attaching you (“the capacitor”) to the circuit.
- Heavy carpets, socks, and soft-soled shoes can further isolate the operator from ground, affecting the ability of the circuit to effectively sense your capacitance to ground. Ground bracelets, grounding floor mats, and hard-soled shoes can help. Try both standing and sitting, as a comfortable chair may also be isolating you from ground.
- Check the ground of the room the unit is installed in and make sure that a true earth-ground is present. Try different outlets or locations (NOTE: there is enough voltage from your wall outlet to be quite deadly - as with all electrical troubleshooting, EXCERCISE EXTREME CAUTION. If you are unfamiliar with electricity and related safety precautions, we highly recommend you call a certified electrician).
- Sometimes, the metal paint coating under the fader cap which makes contact with the glide on the fader can peel, causing intermittent contact. Inspect the underside of the fader cap for missing paint and contact Digidesign for a replacement, if necessary. Fader replacements are also available for purchase directly from the Webstore, under Services > Spares.
- Dust can limit the responsiveness of the faders. Try blowing out the fader track with compressed air.
- It is possible for another device in the room to cause touch problems on a unit that had been working fine previously. Be sure to test your control surface in a minimal environment before connecting other gear.
Testing Faders
For each console, there are multiple fader tests. These tests may include: Triangle, Sine, Step, Cycle, Group, Recal, and Touch. Read below for information on how to run and interpret these tests (note that some tests vary between products):
Triangle, Sine, Step, and Cycle tests will move the faders in the selected pattern up and down the fader throw. Group test allows you to move all faders together by only touching one. In these tests, the display will report which step-bit the fader is currently on. There are a total of 1024 steps (0-1023) for a 10-bit resolution throw.
Recal will reset the throw of all faders. If you have faders that don't seem to travel the entire throw, or seem like their range is limited, you should recalibrate the faders by running this test. Control surfaces that do not have this option automatically calibrate themselves when powered on; if you experience similar problems on these consoles, simply power-cycle the unit.

| "An error occured while trying to establish Ethernet communication. Please check Ethernet connections" when trying to enable the Ethernet ports in the peripherals. |
Virus Barrier identified the DigiShoeTool as a virus for some reason and it appears to have nullified the installed DigiShoeTool.
This seemed to be linked to installing Pro Tools with Virus Barrier running in the background.
Ultimately we had to turn off Virus Barrier and uninstall(safe) and reinstall Pro ToolsHD 7.3 to undo what was done by Virus Barrier
The DigiShoeTool is used by Pro Tools for Ethernet control surfaces. If the DigiShoeTool is deleted, Pro Tools will re-install the DigiShoeTool next time an Ethernet controller is attempted to be declared. If the DigiShoeTool has to be restored, it will prompt for an Administrator password so it can restore its special privileges. If an Administrator password is not entered, the Ethernet controller will not function.
