Topping the list of Mbox's outstanding features are a pair of Focusrite mic pres. Mbox supports XLR mic connections and 1/4" TRS line or instrument (D.I.) inputs utilizing a Neutrik Combo jack. Simply patch in an input source, and rest assured that your signal is treated with the utmost respect, courtesy of Focusrite quality and the same 24-bit Pro Tools environment upon which hundreds of thousands of customers rely.
Once your ideas enter Mbox, Pro Tools LE software handles the audio processing and editing with time-tested finesse, providing you with all the resources you need to create the mix you're after. Track, overdub, edit and mix to your heart's content; single mouse-clicks replace rewind, fast forward and patching inefficiencies, enabling you to create instead of wait. Additionally, nearly every move you make while in Pro Tools can be undone, so your options remain wide open until you're ready to draw the line. Throughout the process of crafting your projects, you simultaneously enjoy a solid, fundamental introduction to the Pro Tools interface.
Additional features further define Mbox as the micro-studio of choice. Zero-latency monitoring of the analog inputs and two analog TRS inserts offer you on- and outboard flexibility; you hear exactly what's happening as it happens, and you can add outside influences in the process. Hi-Z inputs accommodate guitar and bass pickups as well as temperamental keyboard outputs. Ergonomic front-panel gain knobs and a source selection switch allow for quick, discretionary control.
On the output side, Mbox includes two options: two analog balanced/unbalanced outputs with 24-bit D/A converters, and a high-quality headphone amp with dedicated volume control. Both 1/8" and 1/4" headphone connectors are supported. 24-bit stereo S/PDIF digital I/O extends your options by giving you the opportunity to work entirely in the digital domain.
The surprising scope of Mbox isn't constrained to the room in which it sits. Pro Tools LE, which ships with every Mbox unit, includes support for DigiStudio™, a revolutionary new way to collaborate with other Pro Tools users via the Internet. Using a centralized file sharing system, DigiStudio participants interact from any Net-connected location to exchange Pro Tools session media — from raw audio tracks to MIDI data to plug-in information to automation. Previously available only with Pro Tools MIX systems, DigiStudio literally gives you access to a planet of talent and a world of new opportunities. Mbox not only ushers your projects through a small system with major sound, expressly purposed to catch your inspiration as it happens, where it happens — it also represents a truly amazing value. Never before has so much been packed into a package this small at a price that any music maker can afford.
