Co-Install Notes for Avid Media Composer 3.5 (or higher) and Pro Tools 8.0 (or higher)

Co-install refers to Pro Tools and Avid Media Composer software existing together on the same computer. For a list of Pro Tools interfaces which can be used as audio I/O devices with Media Composer, see Supported Audio I/O Interfaces at the bottom of this page.

Pro Tools 8.0 and higher is supported for co-installation on the same computer with Avid Media Composer 3.5 and higher. When you co-install Avid Media Composer and Pro Tools note the following:
  • Install Pro Tools first and then Media Composer.
  • You must uninstall all older versions of Media Composer or Pro Tools before installing Pro Tools 8 (or higher) and Media Composer 3.5 (or higher).
  • Co-install does not support both applications launched simultaneously.
  • Co-install of Pro Tools LE with Mbox 2 Pro is not supported with Mojo, Mojo SDI or Adrenaline due to Firewire conflicts.
  • Co-install was not qualified with Windows Vista 64.
  • When you uninstall Pro Tools, choose to uninstall just the application, not the audio drivers. On a Macintosh Pro Tools system, this is named the "Safe Uninstall".
  • If you uninstall the audio drivers for Mbox or Mbox 2, Media Composer will no longer see these devices.
  • If you run into any issues, uninstall both applications and reinstall Pro Tools first, then Media Composer.

Co-Installing Media Composer 3.5.9 with Pro Tools 8.0.3 on Mac with Avid DNA Video Peripheral
A known issue exists when co-installing Pro Tools 8.0.3 with Media Composer 3.5 through 3.5.9 on Mac OS X 10.5.x when an Avid Mojo or Mojo SDI is connected and the Avid Video Engine is installed with Pro Tools. Pro Tools will not recognize the video engine after installation, and Media Composer may not launch properly. This issue will only occur if the Avid Video Engine is installed with Pro Tools. This issue has been resolved in Media Composer 3.5.13:

Alternately, the workaround is to use Media Composer 4.x where the issue does not occur.

Note: When used with Mojo, Mojo SDI, or Adrenaline, connect the 003 Family or Digi 002 Family interface to an approved FireWire HBA card.

***Pro Tools 8.0.3 and higher does not support the original Mbox (Mbox 1). Because Media Composer 4.0.x uses an Mbox driver from a previous Pro Tools release, Mbox 1 will still function as an audio I/O device with Media Composer (on Windows only). Co-installing Pro Tools 8.0.3 with Media Composer 4.0.x will cause an original Mbox to stop working with Media Composer. [ Mbox EOSS Announcement ]
