Standalone Digidesign Windows Audio Drivers |
Digidesign ASIO Driver & WaveDriver for Windows
Pro Tools HD and Pro Tools LE 7.x and 8.x installers all include the option to install the correct Digidesign Audio Drivers for each version of Pro Tools during Pro Tools installation. That option is checked by default on all Pro Tools 7 installation disks and web installers.

The following information is for users of either the Standalone installer or the Pro Tools installers for the ASIO Driver and WaveDriver:
Digidesign ASIO Driver for Windows
The Digidesign ASIO Driver is a single-client, multichannel sound driver that allows third-party audio programs that support the ASIO Driver standard to record and play back through the following Digidesign hardware:
- Pro Tools|HD audio interfaces
- 192 I/O
- 192 Digital I/O
- 96 I/O
- 96i I/O
- 003 Family
- Digi 002 Family
- Mbox 2 Family
- Mbox 2 Pro
- Mbox 2
- Mbox 2 Mini
- Mbox 2 Micro (playback only)
- Mbox
Full-duplex playback of 24- and 16-bit audio are supported at sample rates up to 48 kHz, depending on your Digidesign hardware and ASIO client application.
The Digidesign ASIO Driver provides the following numbers of input and output channels:
- Up to 8 channels of input and output with Pro Tools|HD systems
- Up to 18 channels of input and output with Digi 002 Family and 003 Family
- Up to 6 channels of input and 8 channels of output with Mbox 2 Pro
- Up to 4 channels of input and 2 channels of output with Mbox 2
- Up to 2 channels of input and output with Mbox and Mbox 2 Mini
- Up to 2 channels of output with Mbox 2 Micro
The ASIO Driver is not multi-client. Only one application at a time can use the ASIO Driver. Be sure to disable the Windows system sounds. It is also recommended that you use a separate sound card for games or other general work.
The ASIO Driver cannot be used if another application on the system is sending audio to Digidesign hardware through the Digidesign Wavedriver. If your system has both the Wavedriver and ASIO Driver installed be sure to disable Windows system sounds. It is also recommended that you use a separate sound card for games or other general work.

Digidesign ASIO Driver Q & A
Q: Is there a Mac OS X version of the Digidesign ASIO Driver?
A: No. The Digidesign Core Audio Driver is used on Mac OS X. Also, in a joint collaboration with Propellerhead Software, Digidesign has added Rewire 2 support with all Pro Tools 6.1 and higher systems for Mac OS X and Windows XP.
Q: With the ASIO Driver, will it be possible to use non-Digidesign hardware (such as MOTU or RME cards) with Pro Tools software?
A: No. The ASIO Driver can only be used in configurations with Digidesign hardware and software programs that support the ASIO standard.
Digidesign WaveDriver for Windows XP — (Not Supported With Windows Vista)
The Digidesign WaveDriver is a single-client, multichannel sound driver that allows third-party audio programs that support the WaveDriver MME (Multimedia Extensions) standard to play back through the following Digidesign hardware:
- Pro Tools|HD audio interfaces
- 192 I/O
- 192 Digital I/O
- 96 I/O
- 96i I/O
- 003 Family
- Digi 002 Family
- Mbox 2 Family
- Mbox 2 Pro
- Mbox 2
- Mbox 2 Mini

Digi MME Helper
(Separate Download)
Digi MME Helper is a free utility from Rail Jon Rogut Software for use with the Digidesign WaveDriver and Digidesign hardware.
This program allows you to add or remove programs such as Internet Explorer, iTunes, etc. from an entry in the Registry which is like an opt-in list which tells the WaveDriver which applications to support.

Digi MME Helper
To Use:
1. Run the Digi MME Helper.exe
2. Click on the "Add..." button
3. Browse to the applications that you would like to be supported by WaveDriver 6.1.1 and press Open
4. Press the Update button, which will update the Registry
Digi MME Helper version 1.2 adds support drag and drop functionality - users can simply drag programs and shortcuts from the start menu, the desktop and explorer and drop them in the list then press update.
