Q: Do both sender and recipient need to own DigiDelivery™ appliances?
A:
No. Unlike some other delivery systems, DigiDelivery does not require both sender and recipient to have matching hardware or to subscribe to the same network.

Q: Do I need to own a DigiDelivery appliance to send and receive deliveries?
A:.
No The DigiDelivery appliance can belong to the sender, the recipient, or someone else entirely. To send deliveries, all you need is an account on that appliance. To receive deliveries, you don't even need to have an account, just a standard email address.

Q: How fast is DigiDelivery?
A:
That depends on everything from your connection speed and the speed of your CPU to the amount of traffic on the Internet. All other factors being equal, DigiDelivery will be faster than FTP because of its lossless compression and efficient communication protocol.

Q: Are there per-use or monthly subscription fees?
A:
No. Once you purchase the DigiDelivery appliance, you install and maintain it on your own network. Data transmission is via your ISP. There are no additional charges. However, DigiDelivery has specific technical requirements that may increase your ISP fees. See Technical Requirements for details.

Q: Can I use my 56k Modem?
A:
Technically, yes. You may send and receive deliveries over any modem, but as with any file transfer, the speed is proportional to the bandwidth of your connection. You can also use a regular modem to access the Administration pages, set up accounts, get reports, etc. However, the DigiDelivery appliance itself requires an Ethernet connection to the Internet such as a T1 line, a DSL line, or a cable modem.

Q: What kind of Internet service do I need?
A:
While you can send and receive deliveries from a workstation with any sort of Internet connection, the actual Digidesign® Serv|LT™ or Serv|GT™ appliance requires an Ethernet connection such as DSL, cable modem, or T1, plus a static IP address. Most ISPs will charge an additional monthly fee for a static IP address if you don't already have one. Q: Can I install DigiDelivery behind my firewall?

Absolutely. Ensuring security is a top priority for the DigiDelivery system. We have documented exactly which ports need to be opened and provided sample network configurations. In addition, DigiDelivery has its own firewall built in, making it safe to use even without additional firewalls. Click here for sample router configurations.

Q: Can I add more storage?
A:
No. DigiDelivery is a transfer system, not an archive. However, DigiDelivery makes much more efficient use of space than a normal server because of the lossless compression and the automatic deletion of files from the DigiDelivery appliance.
